For Maureen
Written for Maureen (surname unknown) who was resident at Barham House, a home for the elderly overlooking Cardigan Bay above New Quay, Ceredigion and where Adeline worked as a carer, often on the night shift.
Adeline sat with Maureen and held her hand as she passed away early that morning - I think she wrote these words upon her return home after her shift, although it may have been typed at work.

Only you could leave on such a day,
The sun shining
The sea shining
And all the daffodils shouting everywhere,
We should have known
that shadows weren't your way.
Your entrances were always spectacular,
Then why not your exit _ centre stage,
Listen to the silence
That is deafening
An echo of applause
to celebrate your flame.
